Our first blog post

So, this is really happening...

Getting ready to be VSO volunteers in Kenya has demanded the combined organisational talents needed for moving house, throwing a party, leaving the country, leaving a job, reading up on a new job, studying for a professional qualification, packing for a long-haul holiday and preparing to furnish a flat we've never seen.  All in one go.

Luckily, Dan has all of these talents and more.  My role has been to take what I consider to be a 'broader' approach, mainly meaning I stand on the sidelines to say, 'you've missed a bit'.  My talent lies in remembering all TOTALLY non-essential aspects of our project like  - party bags for the kids at our going away party.  Or writing our first blog post.

I don't think Jones would choose me as his project assistant, but - we make a good team really.

This week is our final week at our UK jobs, and we're off to queue up at the Kenyan High Commission on Monday morning to apply for visas in person.  It will be very strange to be unemployed next week, and the week after that - to be unemployed and homeless...

Trying to push all panicy thoughts and focus on our large list of things still to do, pack and buy.  The trick, they say, is to remain unemotional as we leave our colleagues, home, car...friends, family.

Wish us luck!
